Wandering around Vienna

Today we decided not to visit anywhere particular in Vienna, just to wander around looking at all the fabulous old buildings, parks, statues, etc.  It was very hot, even early in the morning as we waited for the bus.  Our airbnb is the tall house, our apartment is the basement.

Typical architecture, with gardens and fountains.  We walked through these gardens, flanked by buildings like this.

They like their bronze statues.

Unusual busker.  I suppose the horse-head references Vienna's association with horses, the Spanish Riding School and all the horse-drawn carriages.

We don't usually go to these posh cafes but the situation was so amazing...

...Viennese cakes and very good coffee.

Every road was full of interesting old buildings...

...carriages, trams, buses but few cars.

Quite a few gardens in the heart of the city.

The town hall with screen because it was film festival time.

Interior of St Michael's church.  It was very interesting in here, which is good because we just gave the Cathedral a quick look, it was dark and crowded.

Huge statues everywhere.

On the outskirts of Vienna, by the river, is this area of huge, strange-shaped buildings.  A contrast to the old architecture in the city centre.
