Nuremberg

Drove to Nuremberg in rainy weather so were glad to get to the city and parked.  We dived into the first cafe/cakeshop we came to.  The cakes here were amazing, lots of them on huge platters.  I saw that it had been awarded best cafe in Germany a couple of years ago.  Anyway, by the time we had finished there the rain had stopped.

First on the agenda was the church (St Sebald).  It was very nice to look around, with the typical high vaulting and stained windows, tombs, altars, Madonnas etc.  A couple were playing on the organ and violin -air on a g string.

The castle was better than I expected, with quite a few things to see.  Also the streets leading up to the castle were very picturesque.

Spiral staircase up to the tower.

Part of the castle seen from inside.  We ate our picnic lunch in this courtyard later.

This bronze rabbit was inspired by Durer's work.  He lived in a house nearby.

We walked back through the town and visited this church (Lorenz)...

...which led us to the river where there were several pretty bridges (with cafes, we stopped for a drink), then walked back to the car via the city walls.

Our airbnb was a basement apartment but it had no kitchen so we wandered along to a Chinese restaurant where we had a great meal.  The aquarium behind Malcolm was home to some huge coral as well as tropical fish.
