Driving to Budapest

We are now experiencing a heatwave.  The high forecast for today was 38 but the temp recorded outside the car was 40!!  Luckily the car has good air conditioning.  We left our airbnb early (7.15) it was already 26 degrees.  We  drove to Budapest via Slovakia.  We could use Euros when we got coffee in Slovakia but needed Hungarian money when we stopped for lunch in Szekesfehervar.  First we had to find an atm for money for the parking.  Then we got ice creams to get change.  That change only got us half an hour so after a quick look around we found a place for lunch, got a heap of change and Malcolm went back to the car park to buy more time while I perused the menu. Szekesfehervar was a lovely place to look around after lunch... but our parking was due again so we continued on to Budapest.

I am pretty sure we were the only tourists.

View from our lunch table (2nd church we looked in)

St Stephen's Cathedral where kings used to be crowned when the town was Hungary's capital in medieval times.

Amazing interior.  We had a conversation in English-Hungarian where a lady told us that the light patches show cleaned areas.  There is a donation box towards the cost of cleaning all the frescoes.

Interior of St John's Church.  Very different to the German churches we visited last week (or whenever it was!)

We got to our airbnb in Budapest a couple of hours early (but not enough time to go into the city) so hung around for a bit.  Malcolm found a companion.
