It was a very hot day, in the 30's and we did a lot of walking - 7 hours! We got the train from near the apartment and got off near the castle. We had to walk up lots of steps before entering the castle area which contains palaces, a Cathedral, and other flash buildings. We had to walk up through a lot of it before we found the ticket office where we bought entry to the different buildings. That was when we got out of the sun for a while and grabbed a coffee.
The Cathedral was huge and we had to queue to get in. Inside it was magnificent.
The castle had many courtyards like this.
This was called Golden Lane. Sixteenth century artisan's houses against the ramparts. Some were set up as they would have been, others were shops (sort of in character, eg herbalist, artists) Upstairs in one we came to a wooden gallery that backed onto the castle wall (the grey stucco in this picture)full of armour and weapons. It was very narrow and crowded and the spiral staircase was tiny. We decided to get out and as we tried to get down we came across an Asian guy asking 'is it this way to the torture chamber?' It was, but I thought, who needs to go there, this crowding is bad enough!
After leaving the castle we walked around the part of town on the hillside...
...passing places like this. Before heading to Prague's Eiffel Tower.
Built in 1891, it is 1:15 scale. There are 300 steps up the spiral staircase but good views from the top
...like this, looking down to the old part of Prague across the river.
