Off the beaten tourist route.
Our next stop was Regensburg, a pretty town beside the river...
..with nice architecture, typical of the region.
Banksy?
Another nice church, though we had just started looking around it when it was time for mass so we had to leave.
The market square.
Then we drove into the Czech Republic. We stopped at a small town called Klatovy where we discovered they don't use Euros and got some Czech money from an atm. We had a look around, the square and got an ice cream. Then we set the gps for Prague and got a fright. It was going to take longer than planned - we can't use motorways in Czech Republic, Austria etc as you need to buy a pass first and we only need it for 2 days in each country. The route we had to take took 3 hours as you have to slow to 50kms as you pass through each village (they are about 2kms apart). We were supposed to be meeting our host to pick up the apartment keys at 6.00pm and it was nearly 8.30 when we arrived. We didn't know if she had waited. We tried ringing one of the buzzers but got a grumpy guy who said something to us in Czech (probably get lost). Because we have no phone that works in these countries we communicate by email. We walked to a nearby bar-restaurant and asked if they had wifi. They did. Malcolm got a beer and I got on-line. I saw a message from our host saying ring the top bell. This was hours before so I sent her a message, left Malcolm the computer and hurried back to see if she was at the apartment. Luckily for us, she was (though not too happy, I think!) I ran back to the bar and got Malcolm and our host showed us the showed us the apartment, told us about public transport etc...Finaly about 9.30 we went back to the restaurant for dinner. I had to laugh - the menu was in Czech. We figured some things out and got a nice meal. Whew!!!
On the way to Prague.
