Making the most of the sunny weather we did a two hour walk to the summit of Mt John this morning. First fairly flat, beside the lake...
then slightly uphill to the point above the peninsula

The track then went steeply uphill...
...that hill I was on was behind this one, the track came over the top in the middle distance. We had smoothies in the café up here then walked down another track (only about half an hour) that zigzagged through pine trees, coming out at the hot pools.
We have never been here before. They are very nice - on 3 levels, the hottest being the top one. Not as hot as the pools we were in at Maruia though!!
Lake Tekapo is out of sight behind the plantings and rocks.
