Funny that we didn't do the morning walk because it was too long - as we ended up doing a big walk anyway!  Near to Wanaka is a lake called Diamond Lake and there are some walks there, the longest one being to the Summit of Rocky Mountain.  The sign said 1 and 1/2 hours - we thought that was the length of the loop but it was to the summit!!  It was a long way up (and down) but it was a beautiful day and there kept being better and better views as we went up and around the mountain.  As we got to the summit there were views to Mt Aspiring and the walk down was good too, down the other side of the mountain.  When we got back to the bus we felt really tired, having done an unexpectedly long walk (3 hrs instead of 1 and 1/2)probably a bit dehydrated too - but you have to make the most of these beautiful sunny days!
