West Coast

When we left Lake Hawea and passed Lake Wanaka this morning the weather was fine but there were clouds building ahead.  As we drove towards the Haast Pass the rain got heavier - well it is the we(s)t coast.  The mountains were full of huge waterfalls.  We went to look at Thunder Falls then had coffee on the bus to warm up.  We continued to Haast Junction where the rain stopped and parked at the roadside beside Lake Moeraki.  After lunch we walked the Monro Track to Monroe Beach where there are penguins sometimes.  We didn't see any.  Expecting it to be cold I put about 100 layers on which I had to carry back.  Inside the bus it had gone from 17 to 29 degrees!  Mindful of sandflies we have our screens in the windows.
