The weather was cloudy but not too bad so we took the car and went on a tiki tour inland from Dunedin. First we took the George King Memorial Drive, which loops north from near Mosgiel. The countryside here reminded us of the Yorkshire dales (without the villages or country pubs). Then after crossing SH87 (south of Middlemarch)we went to Lake Mahinerangi. At Waipori Falls we did a bush walk and there was a very high waterfall. Unfortunately you could only glimpse bits of it through the trees. Malcolm climbed down to the river and got a photo of the last bit where it dropped around a corner and into the river.
First the scenery was pastoral, then we went through this gorge with horseshoe bends...
to 'Yorkshire'...
then Lake Mahinerangi - like a Scottish loch...
then forestry and finally native bush - the waterfall in the beech forest.
