Amazingly it was sunny when we left Invercargill yesterday morning and 27 degrees at breakfast time - a good 10 degrees warmer than we had got used to. We took the bus north to near Mossburn then drove to Walter Peak in the car. It was a long way, along gravel roads, but amazing scenery. Great to get to Walter Peak Station and have a cider before driving back. That trip was about 7 hours with stops for photos and at Walter Peak - also did a side trip to Mavora Lakes. First the road was through a wide valley between high mountains, like above...
then the road dipped sharply down to a lower valley...
...and finally arrived at Lake Wakatipu. That is looking up towards Glenorchy.
At walter Peak Station we took heaps of photos of the old buildings and flower gardens.
And chilled out..
Finally watched the Earnslaw come in. She is the last coal-fired passenger vessel operating in the Southern Hemishphere. A very pretty boat.
