We woke to a beautiful early morning at Kina Beach.  We even had a pod of dolphins pass in front of the bus twice as we ate breakfast.  We explored Motueka, finding a good cafe with French pastries and cakes.  The we took the back roads along beside the Motueka and Dove rivers.  For the English readers - we went to Dovedale, then had lunch at the village of Wakefield!

Next campsite Marahau.  We took a picnic lunch to Split Apple Bay - it has to be up there with Whale Bay on the beautiful beach list.

We walked part of the Abel Tasman track the next day.  First we walked 1and 3/4hrs to Apple Tree Bay where we had a coffee (flask not cafe) while we waited for the water taxi.  That took us to Anchorage beach, from there a  4 hr walk back to Marahau.  Sunny all day as the photos show.  A  few years ago we walked the top part of the Abel Tasman - now we just have the middle section to do sometime!

The next day we headed off for Takaka Hill...

  1. Heather, I am finding this an enjoyable way to find out more about the South Island! Cheap too! You sound like you are really enjoying yourself. You two must be as brown as berries and fit! We are on the downward slope at school with tests, another observation but the end is in sight.
