North Mayo

We drove on a foggy morning up tiny little roads to find the ruins of Moyne Abbey - a little off the beaten track.

We stopped at the fishing village of Killala for coffee and to explore the round tower. We see lots of these as we're driving. Lots of the towns and villages have prettily painted houses.

The sun came out when we got to the cliffs at Downpatrick Head. Here's St Patrick.

The views were stunning.

Next stop, Ceide Fields. This is a visitor's Centre at the site of 5,000 year old fields surrounded by stone walls, the oldest cultivated fields in the world. Below is an image of what they were like.

The people probably came from Brittany in boats like this.

Some of the stone walls are excavated.

Then it was on to Louisberg for the night.
