Waltham Abbey

Waltham Abbey is a small town just north of where we're staying. We went to explore the grounds of the ruined abbey and found the town was delightful.

There was a mosaic meridian line...

and lots of pretty old buildings.

There were lots of mosaics in the town and around the church and abbey grounds.

There's been a church here since the seventh century and King Harold was buried here in 1066.

There was a lot to see in the church, well worth the visit.

Canary Wharf and Greenwich

This is on the newish Elizabeth Line

Canary Wharf is full of modern buildings, etc...

...also canal boats in the docks.

Next stop Greenwich where we visited the Cutty Sark.

Then went to look at the Greenwich Meridian.

Derbyshire, Oxford and Enfield

We spent some more time in Matlock and Bakewell...

and after buying tarts we had a tasting.

Next day we had a brief stop in Oxford where we spent some time in the Ashmolean Museum...

Lots of beautiful buildings in Oxford.

An evening stroll by the river in Enfield, checking out the canal boats.

Trams, steampunks, Roman ruins and horse racing.

We went to Crich tramway museum and found a steampunk gathering with music - this is Hazey Jane.

There were several trams running - we went on one. In the museum there were many trams and lots of steampunk market stalls.

The woodland walk was scattered with sculptures.

On the way to the races we called in at Wall, where there are remains of a mansion and bath house.

We went to the races but didn't win anything! :-)

In Derbyshire

We went to Chatsworth House and had lunch in a cafe in the old stables.

The grounds are beautiful.
Next stop Bakewell, cold drinks in one of the pubs.

All the villages are so pretty.
