Edmonds Ruins

Today we have been getting into bus-living mode.  Firstly Malcolm jumped out of bed to put the heater on as it was a decidedly chilly morning.  Then I remembered how long it takes the kettle to boil and the toast to brown on the gas stove compared to the electric appliances at home.  Internet is slow using packet data after fibre...and so on.  Which helps emphasise the slow pace of life on the road.

Wandered around Kerikeri, where the shops are always interesting and in the afternoon we drove out to the Edmonds Ruins, which we have never visited before.  The ruins are of John Edmonds Homestead,  built in 1840. He came over from England to build the Stone Store but found it was already built. He hung around for several years with his wife and family, unwanted by the missionaries who likened his usefulness to the fifth wheel of a cart, then bought land on the Kerikeri Inlet where he farmed etc. Picturesque spot.
